Designed for experienced professionals, this recertification course ensures Competent Climber/Rescuers remain current with the latest safety regulations. As a student-led program, success depends on your ability to actively demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and commitment to safety earned through your time in the field.

Vertical Safety Solutions provides a specialized one-day recertification course for Competent Climber Rescuers. This intensive 6–8-hour program is fully compliant with ANSI/ASSP and NATE CRTS industry standards. The curriculum focuses on updated retraining guidelines, covering the latest in safety regulations, equipment innovations, and standards essential for both annual and biennial personnel evaluations.

Elevate your rescue skills through our interactive recertification program. Moving beyond traditional lectures, this course uses inquiry-based learning where students drive the agenda. By leading technical discussions and working collaboratively, participants demonstrate high-level competency and leadership. This hands-on approach transforms the classroom into a real-world simulation, allowing the instructor to validate your skills as a facilitator and expert evaluator

Prerequisites for Enrollment:
To qualify for this recertification course, participants must meet the following criteria:

  • Current Certification: Shall hold a valid Competent Climber Rescuer credential from Vertical Safety Solutions or an approved, in-person training provider. Online certifications are not accepted.
  • Need for Retraining: Require a retraining to maintain compliance with industry standards, or as mandated by company policy and or employer evaluation.
  • Documentation: If previous certification was issued by a provider other than Vertical Safety Solutions, a clear copy (both sides) of your photo ID card must be submitted with your registration.

Industry Standards vs. OSHA Regulations

While not federal regulations, ANSI/ASSP Z359.2 and NATE CRTS represent the industry’s highest safety benchmarks.

  • ANSI/ASSP Z359.2: Requires retraining every two years, supplemented by an annual rescue drill.
  • NATE CRTS: Mandates annual rescue retraining and biennial climber retraining.

Why it matters: Adhering to these standards is often a prerequisite for contractors, vendors, and tower owners who require proven compliance to maintain active site access and business partnerships.

Retraining Regulations and Standards

While OSHA and MIOSHA do not mandate specific expiration dates for Competent Person, Climber, or Rescuer certifications, the designation is not based on a credential alone. It is defined by an individual’s proven knowledge and delegated authority to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.

Our curriculum aligns directly with OSHA/MIOSHA 1926.503(c), which requires retraining whenever previous instruction becomes obsolete due to workplace changes, new equipment, or a lapse in employee proficiency. By choosing our recertification program, employers fulfill their duty to ensure every ‘Competent Person’ retains the requisite understanding and skill to manage fall protection hazards effectively.

To assist with your administrative needs, we supply formal certification records that satisfy 1926.503(b) to ensure your company remains in compliance.

Upon completion of the training, the employer maintains final responsibility for verifying that the employee continues to meet all company-specific requirements for Competent Person status.

Expiration Dates

At Vertical Safety Solutions, we align with the regulatory rule for retraining (CFR 1926.503(c)(1-3)). While other training providers or 3rd party entities may require annual or biennial recertification, federal regulations allow employers to decide when retraining is necessary. We respect your authority to manage your team’s safety compliance. Because retraining needs vary by company, we do not add expiration dates to training documents unless specifically requested. If your company policy or a third-party entity requires a specific expiration date for retraining, please let us know during registration. We are happy to include a custom expiration date on your training documents upon request.

To ensure your training documents are accurate, please confirm any expiration date requirements before completing registration. A $125 administrative fee per each registrant will apply to any document revisions or reissuances requested after the training date.

We offer this course at our facility through open enrollment and private, closed sessions tailored for your team. Our curriculum is fully customizable, allowing us to integrate your specific company policies or additional safety measures that exceed industry standards.
