Our Story: Bridging the Gap in Vertical Safety

Vertical Safety Solutions began in 2006 as Wind Power Services, specializing in turnkey tower erection, wind turbine installations, and the service and maintenance of residential wind energy systems.

Through the process of sending our own crews to training, we made a critical observation: a significant gap existed between affordable training and truly effective safety education that addressed working at heights for more than just the “can you hear me now” industry.

Identifying the Weakest Link

While sales pitches for the “best” fall protection equipment were strong, we found that the weakest link was often the lack of guidance on what equipment was actually best for the individual climber and most safely suited for the specific job. This realization shifted our mission toward providing high-impact training and brand-neutral gear expertise.

We started by helping others within our own industry find the absolute best equipment available—introducing more efficient, modern solutions to a trade still reliant on outdated methods and insufficient practices.

Expanding Our Perspective

As we began speaking at national safety conferences and serving on recognized safety committees, our perspective expanded. We met professionals from a vast array of industries who work at heights and faced the same vertical training challenges we did.

These experiences reinforced our belief that one size does not fit all. We’ve moved beyond single-industry thinking and dedicated ourselves to personalized equipment specifications for the end user and tailored training solutions for employers whose business is working at heights, no matter their trade.

Confidence Through Knowledge

What began as a mission to provide gear that fit the worker and the job quickly evolved into a commitment to providing the knowledge required to do that job safely. We realized that true safety isn’t just about having the right gear; it’s about the confidence that comes from knowing exactly how to use it when your life is on the line.

Today, we bridge that gap by delivering high-impact, experience-led training that exceeds regulatory standards and helps save lives.

Our Identity & Commitment

In 2012, Vertical Safety Solutions LLC was formally established to provide affordable training, effective education, and brand-neutral equipment expertise to all industries involved in working at heights.

We are a small, family-owned business that still occasionally provides infrastructure maintenance and services the residential wind energy systems of our long-time clients. We travel to our job sites the same way that you do: 100% tie-off, 100% of the time.

Meet Your Instructor: Tammy Stoner

As a leading authority in wind power—ranging from energy generation to mechanical water-lifting systems—Tammy’s passion for fall protection comes from a firsthand understanding of the dangers working at heights. With 20 years of experience as an active climber, she blends real-world hazard awareness with hands-on and technical instruction, proving to her students that safety regulations aren’t just “paperwork”—they are obtainable, life-saving measures, with the right equipment.

Professional Credentials

Tammy holds elite certifications that bridge the gap between field execution and regulatory compliance:

  • Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS): Vetted by the Alliance Safety Council, this credential recognizes Tammy’s mastery of safety leadership and hazard management across all industries.
  • Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer (Construction): Authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to conduct 10-hour and 30-hour construction safety outreach classes.
  • MIOSHA Level 1 Construction Safety & Health: A specialized Michigan Training Institute certificate demonstrating technical expertise in Michigan-specific construction standards and hazard control.

Outside The Class Room

Tammy resides in LeRoy, MI, with her husband. When she isn’t in the field or the classroom, you’ll most likely find her in her “she-shop” restoring a vintage semi-truck. Her life outside of safety is just as active; she is a dedicated beekeeper, a volunteer at a local wildlife rescue center, and does her best thinking while exploring the Northern Michigan wilderness.
